Going the Distance

When I was at the DMV a few weeks ago getting the address on my driver's license updated I was joined in line by a young, newlywed couple. They stepped up to the counter & told the man they needed her license updated with her new last name as they were recently married. The "funny" young man quickly shared the advice someone had given him about how in a marriage there are three rings - the engagement ring, the wedding ring & the suffering. They laughed & laughed thinking it was so incredibly funny. Inside I was crying for them. To be young & newlywed & already happily sharing how this union was going to bring suffering.

Twenty years ago today I was kissed by a boy on a beach under the moonlight. The rest, as they say, is history. Fifteen years ago today we were married. We were young, in love & thought the world was our oyster. Well, we've had our share of ups & downs in this life, but one thing has remained constant - we are truly best friends & there is no one I would rather spend my days with. Our life together is not all sunshine & roses, but it is filled with a deep seeded love that has grown stronger every day. I'm thanking God today for the love he has given us.

Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble. Likewise, two people lying close together can keep each other warm. But how can one be warm alone? A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
