We Have an Appointment with the U.S. Government!

On my excited trek to the mailbox today I finally saw the papers I have been longing for - a fingerprint appointment! Or shall I say three fingerprint appointments?!? I received one & Jeff received two...strange. Both his appointment slips were for the same day/time, but were in two separate envelopes both addressed to him.

Anyway, our field office location was in Minnesota so I assumed that's where we would be going to get fingerprinted. Turns out they are sending us to Milwaukee which is actually further away. We'll have to drive 4 hours & we have to be there at 8 am. I do not want to spend money on a hotel, but it turns out that may be our only option. Either way, I am excited to get this done!

So I need advice from other adoptive parents...since we're having our fingerprints done before the end of the month do you think we'll receive our I-171H in time to go on the end of September trip to Haiti? Logic tells me yes, but this process isn't ever logical. I appreciate your advice!

Glad you had a great girl's night.

As for the 171-H....hmmmm. We got ours exactly a month later. They told us that we couldn't "bug" them for 90 days. So they have "that" long to do it, but I wouldn't think it would take that long. Hope it arrives VERY soon!!!!

I need to clarify:

We got it exactly a month after our homestudy had been turned in. Our homestudy was turned in quite a bit after we had our fingerprints done. Is your homestudy turned in?

If you have all of your other paperwork in then it "usually"..."usually" being the key word here...takes 2-3 weeks after your fingerprint appointment to get your I 171h. First you will get a letter say they are processing it...who know how long that slows down the process :o) & then they send your I 171h after that.

That was more than enough time for us, but our office and processing location is different from yours, we are in CA. But my guess would be that you would be safe in making plans for September. **But it is sooner than the window that they give... so you never know!!**

Our I-600A was sent in along with our homestudy in June. It appears there should be a green light for September (key word APPEARS)!

Illinois is about a 2 week turn around. We will pray Wisconsin is the same.

Yay! You got your appointment! We ended up getting our I-171h about 3 or 4 days before my trip to Haiti. I think God likes to test our faith by bringing things like this right down to the wire... Just pray, and I'll join you! Your time frame is a bit short, but still reasonable- especially since they already have everything else they need from you... Our fingerprint appointment letter had a phone number we could call to change the appointment date/time. Maybe you could switch your appointment to an afternoon time slot and avoid a hotel stay? Just a thought...

We had a faster turn around time than we were told to expect. I can't remember the precise timing.

Praying for quick travel, for both of us!!!!!!!

Hugs :)

Let me be honest, without being a downer, We had our fingerprint appt, when another couple had theirs, with in a day or so, and I went on a trip expecting to have our paperwork by the time I went, and the papers never came for us or the other couple. Well, long story short, the other couples papers came while they were in Haiti, in time to file, and ours didn't. It came in the mail, within an hour or so of landing back in Miami to come home!! Ugg, you just never know! Worst case senario, is that you will get to visit with your beautiful daughter, and the Lord will just need to provide again, for one of you to go back! :0)

I wish I advice for you...but unfortunately I am still clueless on this myself! However, I am praying it works out just in time!

It was a shorter time for us than they said it would be! Just be sure to clarify with them about that extra invitation. Stuff like that can screw you up. They might look at the wrong one and declare he never came or something.

Since Sarah was the downer :o), I'll be the upper :o) (You know I love you Sarah!)
We got Caleb's I171h via Email in Haiti the afternoon before the day we were scheduled for our appt.
The point from both Sarah & I is...that with the (or any) gov't. you never know!
Praying that you will get it quickly!
