How Do I Look?

I don't know why, but while walking to the lobby of the hospital today I really noticed the people in the halls. Each one of them adjusting themselves in some way - an older man straightening his tie, a middle-aged woman fluffing her hair, another lady smoothing her shirt, and another straightening her necklace. Each of these concerned with their appearance in some way. Each of them were fine just as they were, but yet somehow they felt compelled to do more - to be more.

We go through this life worried with how people will perceive us. Are we good enough? Do we look pretty enough? Are we wearing the right clothes? Are we too fat? Many times we judge people by their appearance. I'm the first to admit I'm guilty of that myself at times.

I think that is what I love about the friends I've made via blogging. We do not base our friendships on appearances, looks or status - our connections are based on common interests & beliefs, the way we raise our families, what is important to us, our "causes". We are connected by "heart" & not social status or beauty.

Thankfully God loves us by "heart" also. We do not need to adorn ourselves externally to please Him or win His affection.

Lord, I pray I will base more of my personal relationships on "heart". Help me to love others, just as You have loved me.

But the LORD said to Samuel, "Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7

Hm....just made an appointment at the hairdresser. Maybe that's what I love about my blog friends, too. Also, it is so much easier to be honest. Maybe it all works together.
