Did You Ever...

...just want to live in a cave to shield yourself from human ignorance? Today is that day for me. Ugh.

I therefore make the following announcement:

  • We have been called by God to specifically adopt a child from Haiti. He has ordained this in our lives since the beginning of time. Who are we to argue with that?
  • If you are concerned about the number of children in the U.S. that need to be adopted, please, I encourage you to get more information & welcome a child from the U.S. into your home.
  • Adoption from any country is a great way to build a family. I pray every day that more children will be welcomed into loving homes.

Ugh.

UGH.

Adoption is beautiful no matter WHERE, no matter HOW, no matter WHAT COLOR, no matter WHAT AGE, no matter WHAT NEED.

I have had people ask me why we are adopting from haiti, instead of the US, and my answer alway's remains the same, "I have, have you?" You could always say the similar, "have you adopted from the US?"

I was just grilled a few days ago along these lines. It actually turned in to a very interesting conversation about Haiti and adoption in general. By the end my questioner had become quite supportive. I've found as long as I don't immediately take offense and get angry that these conversations can be used for a lot of good. So when I get these questions I just take a deep breath, say a prayer and tell the truth without apology. Not everyone will "come around" but I've been surprised how many actually have listened.

AMEN!!!! UGH! We haven't even BEGUN my journey and we are getting grilled! Why Haiti? Why not from US? oh and my favorite, why adopt? You can give birth, you had one already? I wave the white flag and cry uncle and say God knows my heart and my desires and he knows what he as called me to do.

Oh, by the way, I was on the FL state adoption list waiting for a child almost three years before starting a Haitian adoption. I am actually still on it and still waiting for the phone to ring. It is much harder to adopt through the state than from another country, although much less expensive.

I did adopt a child through Bethany but I am not looking for a newborn now and would not want to take one from someone who couldn't have one. Besides, who would pick a middle aged family who already has 6 (8 with the twins) kids?

Don't cave, Cheese. It gets the best of us when we turn away and hide from the rude comments.

It is during these times when I hold my head up high and praise the work being done at Three Angels. I am proud of adoption and all the good being done, near and far, by families willing to take in children who are in need of a loving home. People will either listen or walk away never to bother again.

Guess it's the rebel in me, but I am not going let anyone bring me down for the good in what I chose to do. Stand tall, Girl, and come out of the cave. We are doing what is right by God. That is all that matters!

I'm sorry you are having one of those days where you feel like you must defend listening to God's call for your life.

They are never any fun

I don't have anything profound to add to the list of great comments. Just keep on keepin on & on days when it's just to much to hear those type of comments just pretend that you're deaf & can't hear anything they are saying :o)

I am getting that all the time as well, and it's recently driving me nuts...What made you want to adopt? Can you no longer have kids anymore? ANNOYING is the word. I just simply say, "No specific reason, we just want to" and leave it at that! I am done with those questions!

I am right there with you....I am even getting this from one of my pastors. =( They are ALL God's precious little ones, and we know that Anchise was meant to be yours.

Stephanie - I am glad we got to go to Haiti together.

One thing I try to remember when questions arise. Jesus Christ walked on this earth-He was perfect-and yet He was questioned. Many people never understood and will never understand the actions of Jesus.

So as I answer questons, I pray for the same wisdom and grace Jesus showed.

Is that too deep?

It is comforting to know that we are going through these things together!!!

I love you, my new friend.
