The Care Package Take 4

I think this is the fourth care package we have sent to Mercy. Knowing she has new things sent by us makes us feel just a wee bit closer to her. Her favorites are the pictures and chewing gum. That girl LOVES chewing gum. And of course she wouldn't be a good Ghanaian if she didn't carry some of her items on her head. Love that! Love her!

Actually I cannot take credit for the quilt. A group of church ladies frrom another state sent those for all the kids...so sweet and thoughtful!

I'm glad she looks happy with everything, but I pray this will be the last care package you need to send before she is HOME!

Wondering a few things... Can you tell me your preferred method of shipping? Do the people where she is staying send you those pics? Where is your daughter located? We have zero communication with the staff where our daughter is... We are planning to send our first pkg in a week or so (thinking Express??) We were advised that sending a pkg would not be any benefit (only to "keep me busy", any thoughts on this?) Thanks!!!!

Actually I have never shipped any packages directly to Ghana. I have always been able to connect with other adoptive parents traveling who are willing to deliver for us or our agency director has taken things with her. Mercy had been staying in an orphanage and while she was there we were able to have regular phone contact with her. She is now staying with her grandmother until she comes home. I have a couple of contacts in Ghana that will go check on her regularly, get pics for me and let me talk to her on the phone. Personally, I think it's nice to send a package, especially with family pictures in it. It let's the children know they have a family waiting for them. We are not with AAI, but I know they have their families prepare a welcome package for their child to send after the referral is accepted.

It would bother me to have no communication. You are paying thousands of dollars for an adoption and I would expect at least some type of regular contact. Talking with Mercy ahead of time was invaluable because when I actually got to meet her she wasn't afraid of me and in a sense knew me somewhat already.

So precious! I was amazed after sending care packages to my kids for about 2.5 years that they brought much of it home. They still have some of it. It was my lifeline to them.
Mercy is a beauty!
